On the monumental feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, it is my privilege to share with you, our devoted readers, three articles which seek to bring forth the power and the mystery of Our Lady as Co-redemptrix, with Jesus, of the human race. The first article is a presentation made on September 6, 2008, at the International Mariological-Marian Congress in Lourdes at the favored shrine of Lourdes as sponsored by the International Pontifical Marian Academy. The paper entitled, "Mary’s Cooperation in Redemption in 19th and 20th Century Apparitions," seeks to highlight the theme of Marian coredemption from the beginning of the "Age of Mary" at Rue du Bac in 1830; through Lourdes in 1858; Fatima in 1917; and continuing through two ecclesiastically approved apparitions in Akita (1973) and Amsterdam (1945). Our Lady herself calls attention to her indispensable role as Co-redemptrix and its solemn recognition as a condition for peace in our day. The second article is a 2005 Zenit interview on the importance of the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows and its ongoing significance today. Truly the Co-redemptrix continues in the order of mystical suffering to experience the pains her children experience presently throughout the world. The third article highlights the most efficacious praying and promises connected with the chaplet of Our Lady of Sorrows. As is the consistent habit of Our Lady Co-redemptrix, extraordinary graces—personal, familial, and societal—are obtained through the daily praying of this chaplet honoring Our Lady’s Seven Sorrows. Let us be especially united in heart and in prayer with our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, as he will be in Lourdes on this feast of the Seven Sorrows, Monday, September 15. Let us seize the opportunity of this feast of Our Lady Co-redemptrix for generous prayers and petitions for the ultimate solemn definition of the Lady of Sorrows, maternal co-redemptrix with Jesus Christ, divine and human redeemer of all humanity. In the Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Dr. Mark Miravalle --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Mary's Cooperation in Redemption in 19th and 20th Century Marian Apparitions --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Mary's Cooperation in Redemption in 19th and 20th Century Marian Apparitions by Mark Miravalle Address Given at the Lourdes Mariological-Marian Congress of the Pontifical Marian Academy, September 6, 2008. The unique cooperation of the Blessed Virgin Mary with and entirely subordinate to her divine Son, Jesus Christ, in the historic work of redemption is a doctrine consistently taught by the papal magisterium over the past two centuries (1). This Marian doctrine is also found in several ecclesiastically approved Marian apparitions from the same historical period. Marian coredemption classically refers to the unparalleled participation of the Mother of Jesus in the historic accomplishment of the redemption by Jesus Christ, the divine and human redeemer of all humanity (2). Pope Benedict XVI’s instruction for incorporating a "hermeneutics of continuity" (3) rather than any "hermeneutics of rupture" must also be applied to contemporary Mariology, in seeking a proper respect and appreciation for the Mariology that came before the Council, while at the same time including the new inspirations brought to Mariology by the Council and the postconciliar magisterium. Clearly, the Church’s Tradition which directly articulates the doctrinal truth of Mary’s unique share in the redemption accomplished by Jesus Christ has indeed been continued by the Council and the postconcilar magisterium (4). http://www.motherofallpeoples.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1450 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Our Lady of Sorrows and Her Ongoing Significance by Mark Miravalle The following is a re-print of a Sept. 13, 2003, interview conducted by Zenit Catholic News Service with Dr. Miravalle regarding the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. Steubenville, Ohio (Zenit.org)--The liturgical feast of Our Lady of Sorrows is a day with as much relevance as ever, says a noted Mariologist. Mark Miravalle, professor of theology and Mariology at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, is author of a new book entitled, "With Jesus: The Story of Mary Co-redemptrix" (Queenship Publishing). Miravalle: In the memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows, we commemorate the unparalleled human sufferings experienced by the Virgin Mary in her unique role with Jesus in the mission of redemption. In Salvifici Doloris, No. 25, John Paul II describes these shared sufferings by Christ's Mother, particularly during their climactic moments at the foot of the cross, as reaching an "intensity which can hardly be imagined from a human point of view, but which was mysteriously and supernaturally fruitful for the redemption of the world." Historically, this feast can be traced to the fifteenth century and was fostered by popular devotion to the seven dolors, or sorrows, of Mary, particularly among the Flemish faithful and through its promulgation by the Servites of Mary. Until 1960, two feasts of the Sorrows of Mary were liturgically celebrated each year, the first on the Friday before Palm Sunday, which emphasized the "cumpassio" or "co-suffering" of Mary at Calvary; the second on September 15, which commemorates her entire life of co-redemptive suffering, which is highlighted in seven key scriptural events. http://www.motherofallpeoples.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1449 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - The Promises of the Seven Sorrows by Mark Miravalle So much does the Crucified Lord desire humanity to ponder, along with His own saving Redemption, the coredemption of his Mother, that He has attached to the prayerful meditation of the seven principal historical events of Our Lady's sufferings promises of grace and mercy that are nothing short of extraordinary and miraculous. To St. Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373), Our Lady directly reveals the amazing graces granted by her Son for all those who daily pray seven Hail Mary's while meditating on her seven dolors and tears: http://www.motherofallpeoples.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1448 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Consecrate Yourself to Mary
Using the Consecration Prayer
of St. Louis-Marie de Montfort
I, (Name), a faithless sinner, renew and ratify today in your hands the vows of my Baptism; I renounce forever Satan, his pomps and works; and I give myself entirely to Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Wisdom, to carry my cross after Him all the days of my life, and to be more faithful to Him than I have ever been before.
In the presence of all the heavenly court I choose you this day for my Mother and Queen. I deliver and consecrate to you, as your slave, my body and soul, my goods, both interior and exterior, and even the value of all my good actions, past, present and future; leaving to you the entire and full right of disposing of me, and all that belongs to me, without exception, according to your good pleasure, for the greater glory of God, in time and in eternity.
