On June 24, 1981, six Croatian youths reported an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the small Croatian mountain town of "Medjugorje" (pronounced Med-ju-gor-ee-ay). Today, over twenty-two years and approximately thirty million pilgrims later, the visionaries continue to report apparitions and messages from the "Gospa," as they refer to her. These messages are both a profound and urgent plea to the contemporary world regarding its present moral state and, consequently, its future.
This book makes no explicit statement regarding the supernatural character of the apparitions. This official judgement can be made only by the teaching authority of the Catholic Church (the Magisterium). The events in Medjugorje are presently under investigation and the author wishes to affirm his unconditional readiness to accept the final judgement of the Church.
The focus of this book is the "message" of Medjugorje. We will examine the actual contents of the messages reported by the young visionaries and attributed to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The other reported phenomena (solar miracles, miraculous healings, nature of apparitions, etc.) will be discussed only as they relate to the reported message, either directly of by way of the context. The purpose of this book is to present a summary of the message's core elements for the individual who has neither the time nor the desire for a thorough examination.
