Two Eastern Catholic Patriarchs from the Middle East, Maronite Cardinal Patriarch Bechara Boutros Rahi along with Syriac Patriarch Ignatius Youssef III Younan of Antioch, will come together in Lebanon to jointly pray the prayer for a New Pentecost and crown an image of the Lady of all Nations.
International Lay leaders are asking their bishops and priests to pray for a “new descent of the Holy Spirit” as remedy for the present global pandemic and overall global turmoil.
The “People of God for a New Pentecost through Mary,” which comprises lay leaders from 13 countries and all major continents, are requesting their bishops and priests during this Sunday’s upcoming Pentecost liturgy on May 31 to include a special prayer asking Jesus to send the Holy Spirit down anew during the present worldwide Co-Vid 19 crisis.
“We are asking bishops and priests to pray for a Second Pentecost, a renewed coming down of the Holy Spirit through Mary, to help the Church and the world in this unprecedented global crisis,” commented U.S. national leader, Lia Fry. “Just as the Holy Spirit strengthened the apostles in the first cenacle, we are asking our bishops, as today’s apostles, to pray for a new empowering by the Holy Spirit for the Church and the world to best deal with this pandemic and its massive worldwide impact.”
“We need the Holy Spirit. The present world situation is just too much for us to solve on our own,” said Joyce Miranda, People of God leader from the Netherlands. “We need God’s help. Mary was present at the first Pentecost. That’s why we also need our bishops and priests to invoke Mary as ‘Advocate’ this coming Pentecost—so that she can personally pray for a New descent of the Holy Spirit in our present troubled times.”
The movement is specifically asking bishops and priests to pray the following prayer sometime during their Pentecost liturgy or homily, which was reportedly revealed by Mary herself during locally approved Marian apparitions in Amsterdam (approved Bishop Punt, Diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam, May 31, 2002):
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Father,
Send now your Spirit over the earth;
Let the Holy Spirit live in the hearts of all nations,
that they may be preserved from degeneration, disaster, and war.
May the Lady of all nations, the blessed Virgin Mary,
be our Advocate. Amen.
“I believe what our holy Mother revealed in Amsterdam is absolutely true, and that this prayer holds great power before the throne of God,” adds Lina Riachi-Berger, Lebanese national leader living in Germany. “Our Lady wants to bring true peace to the world through a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit, but she needs our cooperation, and that includes praying this prayer globally, in union the Church, that is, by our bishops and priests. She is begging us to help her in this mission for peace and redemption. Our Lady is the Co-redemptrix, and is suffering so much for us already. Her request for help is, for me, an order.”
Major figures of the Church hierarchy are responding. Two Eastern Catholic Patriarchs from the Middle East, where both coronavirus and the scourges of war and economic strife have hit hard, have given their fiat to this international petition from the laity. Maronite Cardinal Patriarch Bechara Boutros Rahi, who heads the largest expression of the Catholic Church in the Middle East, along with Syriac Patriarch Ignatius Youssef III Younan of Antioch, will come together in Lebanon to jointly pray the prayer for a New Pentecost and crown an image of the Lady of all Nations. This Middle Eastern Pentecost event will constitute one of the largest religious gatherings since the global COVID lockdown. Bishops from Africa and Europe will also be participating from their local dioceses, as well as from Brazil, Egypt, and the United States.
“We are in a situation where humanity cannot find a way out,” adds Miranda. “Not only the Coronavirus, but also global economic crisis, moral degeneration, disaster, and rumors of war. We cannot solve these problems with only worldly means. We need a supernatural solution. We need the Holy Spirit through the intercession of Mary as Advocate.”
